FarCry problem?
Hi, I need to ask a quick question (I hope I posted in the right area)... I just bought FarCry which I have been much anticipating... I installed all 5 disks, all seems to go fine right up until actually playing the game... it is to do with the graphics I have this opaque effect happening so everything seems to be in shades of whites and light greys... when I finally made it out of the boat (i think it is at the start) everything is still opaque, except in the distance there are splashes of colour in the trees... when I get closer to them they too turn shades of white. I have a brand new graphics card which should not really be a problem (hasn't anywhere else) has anyone else experienced this. I thought is was part of the game at first... now I think there is something wrong. Short of a uninstall and reinstall, any comments?
My specs:
Pentium 2.4GHz Prescott
MSI PX8 Neo-V mobo
Jaton 256MB 3D Force FX5700 graphics card
768MB RAM
WinXP
I have to go out for a few hours but any ideas/comments appreciated... thanks heaps.

Also thinking drivers, if you're card is brand new you probably are running whatever drivers came with it.. go get the latest from nvidia.com and you should be right.

Hey thanks for your feedback... I actually downloaded what I understood to be the latest driver for the card, it seems to be the same one (61.77_win2kxp_english). Actually it wasn't until I installed this that Doom3 worked so I am going to uninstall FarCry and re-install it again... will let you know how it works out.... cheers again for the feedback.
Oh and I cant seem to be able to get a screenshot of it.

I just checked Ubisoft website for a game patch and I read that there is a patch which is supposed to solve the following problems (among others!)
Quote:
Other
- Improved shader speed (up to two times faster) for NVidia Geforce FX cards on very high settings
- Fixed fog bug with NVidia drivers
- Added support for NVidia NV40 chipset
- Fixed realtime shadows from blended trees
- Made improvements to lighting shaders on very high settings
- Fixed bug with lake reflections
- Added support fro PS3.0 shader profile
|
Ahhh!!....the fog bug!! If you want the patch... I am going to download it now from here...OMG 26.5MB!!! My poor 56K modem... time to go to bed I think! Will let you know how the patch goes...sounds like it is worth it though...here it is

See if you can still find the 1.2 patch around as I think this improves on the problem further, and optimizes the game heaps for nVidia cards. The patch was officially withdrawn because of problems with ATi cards, but that shouldn't cause you any bother if you aint using one

It worked!!!
Sorry it took a while to reply but the patch fixed it up. It also made me laugh because I have no idea how I even made it out of the cave at the start.... and I thought it was a boat shows you how much I could see! (or could not see as the case may be!)
Anyway, yeah I read about the 1.2 patch... wil keep my eyes open for it... I didn't actually think it had been released yet... Cheers
