BF2 Battlefield Recorder

Battlerecorder for Battlefield 2

What is Battlerecorder?
  • A casual gamer’s replay function Players can replay past battles back in the Battlefield 2 engine, reliving their Battlefield moments as often as they want.
  • A hardcore gamer’s learning tool Clan members can use the integrated replay toolset to analyze player performance and patterns.
  • A tournament director's dream Resolve conflicts and disputes from the point of view of the actual game server that ran the match.
  • A moviemaker’s dream. Server-side recording is a snap to set up. Scripting system allows users to render sections of the footage from a desired POV out to .avi. Use your desired 3rd party video editing suite to stitch your magnum opus together.

In detail:
Battlerecorder at its core is an integrated tool for both recording Battlefield 2 rounds and playing them back within the Battlefield 2 engine.

Server admins choose whether or not to run Battlerecorder on their server and where to store the files. Players who have taken part in a recorded round can easily pull down the game file within Battlefield 2 (from the in-game Community menu). Players can also pass the files among themselves manually to share their favorite moments with their friends.

Additionally, Battlerecorder includes functionality for rendering sequences from the recorded file to .avi format. Finally, players can choose the point of view to watch the recording from (moving from player to player or around the world in free cam; note that Battlerecorder does not store first person view data).

Playback Info
The following commands can be used to control the game replay and camera in a recorded demo.

Q – opens the Playback Rose. Move the mouse to highlight the desired playback option and press the Left Mouse Button to select. Options available here that are not bound to separate keys include "Restart" and "Quit".

T – opens the Camera Rose. Choose the camera option or cycle through the available players.
1 – Pause the playback (also available in the Playback Rose).
2 – Playback recorded session at normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
3 – Playback recorded session at 5% of normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
4 – Playback recorded session at 25% of normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
5 – Playback recorded session at 50% of normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
6 – Playback recorded session at normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
7 – Playback recorded session at 150% of normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
8 – Playback recorded session at 300% of normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).

Spacebar – cycle between players.
Right Mouse Button – cycle between free camera and player camera.
Mouse wheel – zoom camera in and out when locked onto a player.
W, A, S, D, Ctrl and Shift – move free camera around map, forward, left, backwards, right, down and up.
Mouse look – aim free camera.

Basic Rendering Instructions
Playing back a demo outside the client and recording your camera movements

This mode lets you record a camera path to go with a demo recording so that they can be played back together. The camera works exactly as described in the instructions above but all movements you make are recorded.

If working from the machine that recorded the demo, drop the demo.cmd file provided with this update into the root of the Battlefield 2 install folder.

If working from a client that has downloaded a demo from the game’s front end:
Create a "Demos" folder in the root of the game install folder.
Move the demos you wish to render from into the demos folder from their normal location in you’re my Documents folder.
Drop the demo.cmd folder found below into the root of the game install folder.

Launch the demo recording as follows
Launch the Command Prompt and browse to the game’s install directory.
E.g. type "cd c:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2" and hit ENTER
Type "demo.cmd +c " and press enter.
E.g. "demo.cmd +c mydemo mydemocam" will record a Demos\mydemocam.bf2cam for demo Demos\mydemo.bf2demo
Before quitting the game, wait for the message 'camera file closed' in the console or the camera file will be broken.

Playing back a demo with pre-recorded camera movements
This mode combines the previous steps and shows you a take with both the demo and camera tracks active.
Launch the game as follows: demo.cmd

To watch the demo with the default recorded camera use: demo.cmd -def
Rendering images to disk
This mode writes out an AVI file to disk based on a demo file and a recorded camera file.
Launch the game as follows: demo.cmd +r
A dialog box pops up where you can select encoder (Xvid or Divx is recommended) and the quality settings for that encoder.
If you want to stop rendering before the end of the demo, press 'R'

Capturing sound
This mode tries to set up an ideal environment for recording sound.
Launch the game as follows: demo.cmd +s
Use external recording software to capture the sound from the playback

Question

Will Gamespace be enabling battle recorder footage, even it's only for Netspace customers.

On other servers i have come across, the BattleRecorder Files are only available for their ISP's customers. Is this the case for Gamespace?
Can the files be downloaded manually and not through the game? I have seen servers that allow you to download them through your web browser.

EDIT: Ah can you upload custom avatars on this forum? I cant find it in the settings

EDIT2: No wait I just found the answer. Only if your a customer

EDIT3: I can't see Server #20 and #22 on the server list page. Are they offline or for certain people only? And what do the symbols next to it mean like the blue recyclable thing?

The demos are available for gamespace members. Its recommended that you download the demo's ingame (community tab) as its easier to identify, although the demo files are also available for download here

Hooray. Gamespace now has my vote.

[ TUB>< ] The Ugly Buggers

Guys,

There's a really good helpful tool to make using the recorded demos nice and easy. BattleLauncher:
http://www.battlelauncher.com/

I used it the other week to help make my first BF2 movie, and will definitely use it again.

Other than that, all we need now is for them to improve the BF2 recorder. (Rewind would be GREAT!)

Cheers,
OP.

The gamespace bookmarks didnt show up on the community tab. When I delete other bookmarks and I log back in they are still there.
Also does the battlerecorder only enable when it is booked? Becuase I played on the servers and in http://network.gamespace.net.au/autoref/bf2 there are no demo's of me playing on the same date.

Battlerecorder is enabled on the bookables when its in Ranked mode (Public) and is a selection option when a booking is made. Its possible that when its Ranked, it only starts to record once a game has begun when in ranked mode (ie 10 people in server).

To enable Demo recording in a booking enable Auto Record Demo tickbox.

Uhhhh, and how do i get battlelauncher to work, i just downloaded a 10mb video off the above link that has all the gamespace videos, and yeah i double click which opens battlelauncher, and after having set everything up i get a dumb error saying
"'0,90' is not a valid floating point"

I have no idea where to put the bf2demo file, so i put it into my documents, when i go to scan my documents for a bf2demo file, it doesnt do anything.

Battlelauncher either sucks, or god hates me and wont let me do anything.

No you suck.

You need to put it in:

My Documents>Battlefield 2>Profiles>Default>demos>
and just for good meaure name it demo2.bf2demo or somthing.

Then go to the Battlerecorder Tab and find the demo and play it.

Unfortunatly you only get to see half one round becuase BF2 "unzips" it into the multiple rounds when it downloads it.

By the way the downloads in the BR tab worked the other day from Gamepsace. Wooo

Dilmah no need for that ---> "No you suck"

Yes if you have played in a gamespace ladder game you can download it via the ingame Community tab. It will have most likely 4 files, every time u restart the map it creates a new file. BF2 puts it in the right folder and it shows up as soon as it is finished downloading. IMO way easier then going to the website and downloading them.

I booked a BF2 server that had demo recording. The problem was that the booking time ended before we finished any rounds and the recording did not show. Do you have to finish the round for a recording to show up?

so does all this meen thare is no way to record an every day match? cuz when ea first said BF2 would have it i was going to use it for replaying moments that are so lucky or one chance, like the time i put C4 on a bridge and walked down the road and a full van of guys went flying past me and didin't even shoot at me then thay went over the bridge and i hit the button and blew them and the bridge up lol! i would have loved to replay that and see it in thare point of view but it seems now that i can only replay big clan events witch i don't really join. if anyone knows of a place that i can replay my everyday battles please tell me!

Are there any moves being made to have BR enabled on a non-bookable server or is the extra load on the server too much to run those servers smoothly?
