If no dedicated server was enough to cause outrage, we have another to add to the chapter for the new game in the CoD series. Basically, you play a terrorist. You gun down innocent civilians in one scene. The reason for this? It is done so you can sense the urgency to stop the Russian villains who are cold blooded and will do anything to achieve their aims. The scene can be skipped, but the checkpoints for the area cannot be. The game is trying to mirror real life happenings and looks like they want you to feel both sides of the action. This has been confirmed by a leak of the scene and was rapidly taken down due to copyright infringement. The game itself is released on November 10 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
Do you think all the negative press will hurt sales and the franchise?
I think it will affect sales, but not as much as people think.
I always thought they'd never make you play 'the bad guys,' not too sure why.
But I don't think what's in the game isn't as important to the 'fans' as what's not.

I DONT think it will affect sales, i think it will gain sales (especially for CONSOLES).
Just imagine those console fan boys running around thinking they own everything on their insuperior consoles, oh wait what am i saying?
I dont really know because im a PC fan boy and with no dedicated servers then it really doesnt matter, lol, but for console anything that resembles rebellionism will deffinatly cater for those console players.
**Disclaimer** im only steroetyping console players but anything like this is actually a selling point for most.
This trend of Australian game raging is starting to give me a headache.
But anyway... I love playing as the villain in games. Here are my reasons why:
1. You don't have to try earn trust or respect by doing quests/missions for people that just diss or hate you.
2. Being evil lets you skip doing some silly little quests/missions. For example - Guy says "You want this key? Pay me $200 or find me 6 of these etc" meanwhile as evil you can just steal it, kill him and take it or still choose to satisfy his demand in a evil way (like rob his house for $200).
3. Taking the evil path generally unlocks the more destructive and lethal equipment, content and choices. Which is naturally more entertaining.
4. Killing innocence! Either to satisfy a sadistic urge and your sick sense or humor or it just makes it easier to hit your target since you don't have to hesitate mowing down a crowd of people to get to your target.
5. Generally better endings. For most games I have played, choosing a evil path ends up with him owning the world, galaxy, army, power and what not. Good paths usually get you sacrificed for the greater good or walk away with a random chick you could of just taken as an evil warlord anyway.
So taking those points into consideration... don't we all like to be virtually evil? At least a little in some point?

that makes this even worse.
Though it makes sense, majority of cybergamers are probably <15
Competitive CoD4 uses a mod called Promod, which balances the guns, adds a rule set, and forces players to use server settings so its fair play, without dedicated servers, mods cant be made, without mods, there is no ladders.. it was anticipated to be the next big thing in competitive play, and IW killed it with there IW.net idea.
and yeah, most are 15-16, resaon why i've left the CoD games and started playing CS:S

Thats the second most funniest thing ive read all day.
You moved from COD to CSS, which the player set is older than 16? i dont think so.
X2
I have seen and heard kids as young as 10 play. Do not get me started on them or the campers or statwhores or the pseudo pros or the mic spammers or the ghosters or even the cheaters.
I think that sums up css.
On topic: it mades news.com.au and people are whgining either save the children, it is out of context, it will be fun to kill innocent civilians or that we need an 18+ rating system. It is a judgement of morals and if a life worth ending is the one that saves a million. It is a centuries old dilemma with no positive solution.
well ive must be playing in the right servers than, or these 10 year olds are extremely mature, almost every server on cod4 is full of kids *****ing, or full full of egotistic kids bragging about being good at an easy game...

awesome is all i can say, i think people forget games like Carmegedon.
it really will depend on the feeling the scenes will give.
but overall
get over it Australia.
its a game........
I loved playing that game as a 12 year old rofl.

My experience with CoD4 has been significantly worse than CS:S as far dealing with younger gamers is concerned. Generally it's just a matter of not playing on surf servers.

You can always mute them if they're annoying.

So long as they are doing it to achieve the map goal (rescue hostages/plant the bomb) how is this an issue?

I assume this is an attitude thing, rather than a skill thing. In which case, a bit of banter can liven up a dull game. Abuse is taking it too far though.

Re: More Modern Warfare 2 controversy
There's too much to quote, so I'm just going to agree with Pits.. He's nailed CS:S on the head, and he did it with a big stick with a rusty bent nail sticking out of it..

Like the teenagers who lower their voice on mic and try talk about their everyday life which involves sex, drugs and some driving lol
And the under-aged girl players who has an army of hopeful older guys follow them to every server they go.
Just want to point that out.
