THE sequel to a popular video game has been banned in Australia after failing to receive a rating of MA15+.
Left 4 Dead 2 was refused classification by the Classifications Board this week, meaning it will be banned from sale.
In its report the board said the game, due to be released in November, contained "realistic, frenetic and unrelenting violence".
"The game contains violence that is high in impact and is therefore unsuitable for persons under 18 years to play," the report said.

At the risk of being linched: I'm with the guys who made the decision. What the problem is at the moment is the law that doesn't include a provision for R18+, not the fact that these guys think the game fits into a particular criteria, and hence achieves a particular rating.
Nahtzee, the reason why they banned this is quote "The game contains realistic, frenetic and unrelenting violence which is infliceted upon "The Infected" who are living human beings ... The interactive nature of the game increases the overall impact of the frequent and intense depictions of violence"
Fair enough I say, if it's anything like L4D , then the whole point of the game is realistic, frenetic, unrelenting violence toward "human" characters!

There are private servers that are managing to sustain larger numbers of players for MMOs such as World of Warcraft. With a bit of wit, hard work and something like hamachi I am sure it can work

dude if pirating has taught people anything its it will always find a way.
For a game as BIG as L4D for it to be banned in Australia, is just idiotic. And the reason why there is no R rating for games is because the same council who rate these games voted for not to have one. So it is directly the board of classifications causing.
Once again Australia shows us what a bunch of idiots it is being run by.

Remy i see what you mean, but there is obviously an error in the rating system that needs to be addressed then.
People 18 and over should be able to have access to games like this, if there is no rating system for these titles deemed 18+ then there needs to be an 18+ rating available for games or the rating system needs to be corrected.

I recently went into EB and I saw Left 4 Dead 2 on the 'Coming soon' shelf, looks like EB will have to disappoint as well as all the other retailers.
But hey, it should be on steam so it's all good, plus the dvd/retail version of Left 4 Dead doesn't work with steam versions, so it should be fine.

Well everyone blame The Governor-General of SA, he is the only one who is stpooind Australia to having R18+ games.
Apparently all states and territories have to vote for 18+ and if only one doesnt then it gets canned and he is the only one against it.
So send all your hate mail to him.
Just import the game or off ebay.
The worst part is seeing if we are allowed in Australia to host the actual game, someone needs to look into it.

This is not going to happen. I mean, yeah, people will do it.
But, the OVERWHELMING demand for this game is insane. There will be a ridiculous amount of people going on ebay and trying to get a copy.
There is no flipping way that Valve will skip Australia, the market is MASSIVE! They will probably give us a tamer version (Which, I will buy, just because I want the game).
In saying this, I wonder how 'inter-country' games will go, considering there are an amount of people with a real version and a number of people with a censored one. They won't be allowed in the same server together?
ALL in all. Valve will give us the game. Doing it as a big 'underground' movement and skipping legal ways of buying it will result in punishment. The government isn't stupid enough to allow us to do that (surprisly not stupid enough).

This makes me mad as hell. The fact people over 18 are told what they can and can't play is ridiculous. The government was supposed to review the whole ridiculous games classification situation six months ago and in the end didn't bother. This will create a massive fan backlash. One of the biggest game developers in the world are unable to release a sequel to one of the games of the year due to a classification system that doesn't go beyond MA15. What an absolute joke. You can bet the next issue of PCPP will have a write up on this and tell us who in govenrment to write to and tell them what we think of this.
